Pixotick Announcement Bar - Privacy Policy

Pixotick Announcement Bar ("the App") provides announcement bar functionality ("the Service") to merchants who use Shopify to power their online stores. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and shared when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store.

The App is operated by Pixotick, an independent software development brand run by Dmitry, an individual developer based in the Republic of Belarus.

What Personal Information We Collect

When you install the App, we automatically receive certain information from your Shopify account that is necessary to provide the Service, including:

  • Your shop name, shop domain, and store owner email address
  • Shopify access tokens required for the App to function

We do not collect any personal information from your store's customers. The App does not place cookies, tracking pixels, or any other tracking technologies on your customers' devices.

The App uses the browser's localStorage on your customers' devices solely to remember whether a customer has dismissed an announcement bar. This data is stored locally in the customer's browser, is not transmitted to our servers or any third party, and automatically expires after 24 hours. The stored value contains only an anonymous announcement identifier and a timestamp — no personal information is involved.

Shopify API Access Scopes

The App requests the following Shopify API access scopes to provide its functionality:

  • write_themes – to inject the announcement bar into your store's theme
  • write_metaobject_definitions, write_metaobjects – to store announcement bar configuration data
  • write_products – to enable product-related targeting for announcements
  • write_discounts – to support discount-based announcement features

We access only the data necessary to provide the App's functionality and do not use it for any other purposes.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality
  • Communicate with you regarding the App (for example, support requests or important updates)
  • Respond to your questions and requests

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to operating the App.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. We may disclose your information only in the following circumstances:

  • To comply with applicable laws, regulations, or legal processes
  • To respond to lawful requests from public authorities
  • To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property

Data Retention

We retain your shop information for as long as you have the App installed. When you uninstall the App, we delete your data from our systems within 30 days, unless we are required by law to retain it for a longer period.

If you are a European resident, you have the right under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction, update, or deletion of your personal information
  • Object to or restrict the processing of your personal information
  • Request data portability

We process your information to fulfill our contractual obligations to you (providing the App's Service) and to pursue our legitimate business interests. Please note that your information may be transferred and stored outside of the European Economic Area.

CCPA Compliance (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides you with the right to know what personal data we collect and how it is used, request deletion of your personal data, and opt out of the sale of your personal data. We do not sell personal data.

Mandatory Shopify Webhooks

In accordance with Shopify's requirements, the App handles the following mandatory compliance webhooks:

  • customers/data_request – to provide customer data upon request
  • customers/redact – to delete customer data upon request
  • shop/redact – to delete shop data after the App is uninstalled

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. All communication between the App and Shopify is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
